There's been a lot of talk about ways to reduce your footprint lately. There are little things you might already be doing like taking reusable bags to the grocery store or sorting recyclables at home. Then there are big changes you can make like living trash free for 30 days or installing solar panels on your roof. As amazing as those actions are, they can feel a little intimidating or overwhelming if you're trying to get started. I'll admit that I don't live trash free. I'm still living on a college budget and unfortunately products that have more packaging and waste are cheaper. But there are still easy and cheap ways to limit your waste.
I plan on living on this planet for the next 80 years so I'm going to do my best to take care of it.
In the spirit of Cold Brew and trying new things, I'm ditching my big plastic-wrapped packs of makeup remover wipes. Not only do they come with unnecessary packaging, but there are a lot of ingredients in there clogging up my pores. All you really need to remove your make up is a simple oil and something to water it down so you don't feel greasy after you use it. I've seen recipes that use jojoba oil, coconut oil, baby oil, olive oil, and more. So far I've tried olive oil and coconut oil and I like both. This recipe still uses cotton rounds that come in plastic packaging, but if I buy in bulk it produces less waste than if I buy the pricy packs of makeup wipes.
Here's my recipe for diy makeup remover wipes
Ingredients 1 T coconut oil, melted 4 T witch hazel (I use Thayers Aloe Vera and Rose Petal Witch Hazel 1 T water 1 T aloe vera (You can use pure aloe but if you're on a college budget like me, gel works too.) Cotton rounds Instructions Mix all ingredients in a small glass jar and shake until incorporated. Add a stack cotton rounds to the jar and press the cotton rounds into the liquid to help them suck up the mixture. It's that simple.
